DISCOVERY SCHOOLYARD

What Is The Discovery Schoolyard?

Installed in 1996, the schoolyard has been a staple of Tuckahoe student learning. It encompasses garden areas (by grade-level) and outdoor classrooms.

Students get many opportunities throughout the year for hands-on, nature-based lessons - growing & harvesting (and eating!) vegetables, measuring outdoor conditions, observing wildlife, STEAM lessons and more!

This is a wonderful partnership between the PTA (helps funds upkeep and improvements) and the Tuckahoe school. To learn more, visit the Discovery Schoolyard website.

Volunteers Needed!

Parent & community volunteers help maintain the gardens. There are many ways and many opportunities to get involved, and to work with your kids in a fun outdoor setting. Volunteers assist with gardening, carpentry, documentation/photography, in-kind donations, and assisting Discovery Schoolyard clubs.

Fall Garden Workdays

Please join us in the special tradition of community support for Tuckahoe's Discovery Schoolyard! Your help is needed on our monthly garden workdays to make sure our beautiful, outdoor classrooms are at their best. You don't need any gardening experience to help - just bring your enthusiasm. All ages are welcome, and it is a great way to get outside and enjoy nature with other Tuckahoe families. Feel free to pop in when your schedule allows. You can stay for any portion of the event, whether it be one hour or longer. We can't wait to see you in the garden! Upcoming fall dates are:

Sunday, Sept. 11th from 1-3pm

Saturday, Oct. 15th from 9am-12

Sunday, Nov. 13th from 1-3pm

Saturday, Dec. 10th from 9am-12

More details and sign-up can be found here.
