PTA Advocacy
The Tuckahoe PTA supports the National PTA's goals of supporting and speaking on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children.
In order to achieve better outcomes for students, teachers and schools at the local level, the Tuckahoe PTA works collaboratively with the school administrators, the School and County Boards, and a variety of other organizations that impact our kids' education.
If you are interested in being a part of our advocacy efforts, there are plenty of ways to engage.
Visit our "Tuckahoe In The Community" page for the latest information on ongoing and previous community partnerships.

Current APS Policies Up for Public Comment
Once the drafting and internal stakeholder policy process is complete, policy drafts are made available for 30 days to ensure that all interested stakeholders have an opportunity to provide input. Please click on the policy name (s) below to access the drafts. This transparent process allows for an equitable community feedback stage prior to bringing forth the final draft as an information item at a School Board meeting. Please note that suggestions may be submitted during the comment period. Staff consider all suggestions but do not provide individual responses.
After the public comment period closes, there is an additional opportunity to provide feedback when the policy comes forth to the School Board for Information at an upcoming School Board meeting.

County-wide Advocacy Organizations
Through several groups such as the County Council of PTAs, the Special Education PTA, and the Advisory Council on Education, Tuckahoe PTA representatives share ideas and resources as well as search for solutions to challenges. They represent the Tuckahoe PTA's collective voice and share back information from across the county that our Tuckahoe community needs to be aware of.
County Council PTA (CCPTA)
The County Council of PTAs (CCPTA) is made up of PTAs from across Arlington County. It is a forum to discuss issues being considered at the County level and an opportunity for PTAs to work collaboratively. Our volunteer liaisons attend meetings in order to keep us informed and to reflect back Tuckahoe PTA's views on issues being considered back to CCPTA.
In addition, CCPTA helps PTAs at schools across the county with funding for projects, activities, and teacher grants to ensure equality and equity in academic experiences and opportunities. Tuckahoe's PTA is an active donor and participant in this collaboration initiative. More information about the CCPTA can be found on the CCPTA website.
Advisory Council on Teaching and Learning
Advisory Council on Teaching and Learning is run through the Arlington County Public Schools (APS). ACTL is made up of school and community organizations representatives, including PTA liaisons. Involvement in ACTL allows Tuckahoe PTA an opportunity to engage in education policy matters, including reviewing curriculum and instructional programming and making recommendations for improvement.
Volunteers are needed to serve as liaisons to ACTL broadly or to engage on many of the other advisory committees through APS. For more information on ACTL and its committees, visit the ACTL website.
To volunteer please contact the PTA President.
Citizen Advisory Committees
APS has over 30 volunteer committees that focus on a variety of topics affecting schools - from instruction to construction. Many of the groups report to, and are appointed by, the School Board. Not only do these committees help APS broadly, but the work they do also impacts Tuckahoe as part of the APS network. Submit an application to join a curriculum-based committee or non-instructional advisory committees (and if you do, don't forget to let the PTA know so we can work directly with you).
